Advanced Rainfall Analysis

Rainfall statistics, extremes, trends and drought (SPI) for any location in India from IMD gridded data, or for your own station records

1. Rainfall Data

Drop a rainfall CSV here
One or many stations, daily or monthly
Which layouts work?
  • Date, Station1, Station2, ... (one column per station)
  • Station, Date, Rainfall (one row per station and day)
  • Year, Month, Day, Rainfall
  • Year, Jan, Feb, ... Dec (monthly totals)
  • Year, Month, 1, 2, ... 31 (one row per month)
Dates like 2001-06-15, 15/06/2001, 15-Jun-2001 or Excel date numbers are recognised. Negative values and codes such as -999 count as missing.

NetCDF files (IMD, ERA5, CHIRPS, climate-model output...) are opened with the NetCDF Explorer, which reads them in your browser:

  1. Open your files in the NetCDF Explorer.
  2. Extract a point time series or an area average (a box or a catchment boundary).
  3. Click Analyse as rainfall - the series appears here.
Open the NetCDF Explorer
Units such as kg m⁻² s⁻¹ (climate models) or metres (ERA5) are converted to mm per day automatically. For a subset extracted as a wide CSV, every grid cell can be analysed separately.
2. Series to Analyse
No series yet. Add one from IMD data, a CSV or a NetCDF extraction.
3. Analyse
Options
Base period: used for the 95th/99th percentile thresholds, the long-period average (LPA) and SPI calibration. Default: the whole record.
Rainfall values are sent to the server only to compute the statistics and are not stored.
